Even in a robust economic climate, the hospitality and tourism industry faces unique challenges. Fierce competition, a fluid workforce and changing consumer tastes make it difficult to consistently maintain profitability and growth. Distress can arise quickly and requires fast and decisive action. This panel examines the principal forces causing these challenges, the options that exist in the current environment, and the creative solutions that successful operators have used to address them.

Chris Ferguson

Mr. Ferguson is a Senior Vice President with Wells Fargo Bank. He is the Regional Manager of the Credit Management Group (Special Assets) for the Carolinas and has been in that role since 2010.  The Credit Management Group is focused on successful resolution of problem loans to businesses. Prior to Wells Fargo he was a Director of Roynat Capital, a middle market private equity firm focused on mezzanine and equity investments.  Prior to Roynat he was an Investment Banker with RBC Bank.  Mr. Ferguson is a North Carolina native and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC-Chapel Hill.  

 

John Fioretti

Mr. Fioretti is a senior finance and restructuring professional with over 27 years of experience in interim crisis management, loan restructuring, portfolio management of troubled debt, board of director services, liquidating trustee services and middle market lending.  He has successfully worked with both creditors and debtors in many different industries, including restaurant, real estate, finance, transportation, and healthcare, as well as with various retail, manufacturing, wholesale and service companies. Mr. Fioretti has extensive experience with bankruptcy restructurings and liquidations, as well as out of court settlements.  He graduated from Lehigh University with a BS in Accounting and has served on its Board of Trustees.

 

Jim Lanik

Jim is a partner at Waldrep LLP. Prior to joining the firm, he was an associate and then member at Roberson, Haworth & Reese, PLLC focusing on business bankruptcy and municipal law. He has represented trustees, creditors, and debtors in all aspects of business bankruptcy cases.

Jim is currently on the panel of Chapter 7 Trustees for the Middle District of North Carolina. Jim acts as a receiver in state court matters in addition to his Chapter 7 trustee practice. Jim is also the Town Attorney for Midway, North Carolina, a small town in northern Davidson County which was incorporated in 2006.

Jim is active as a volunteer with the Wyndham Championship, the Piedmont Triad's PGA Tour event. He is also a supporter of Autism Unbound and the ARC of High Point.

Mr. Sanz is the Managing Partner of ABTV and focuses on stabilizing and turning around troubled companies in a wide range of industries. He has served in senior management roles and also provided strategic advice related to corporate governance, succession planning, mergers and acquisitions, and other related transition issues. He has served in court-appointed roles including Chief Restructuring Officer, Financial Advisor, Trustee and Receiver both inside and outside of bankruptcy proceedings.  Mr. Sanz serves on the boards of both TMA Global and the TMA Carolinas chapter.  He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, the Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP) credential, a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Virginia, and an MBA from Emory University.
